About this scholarship

The Toward EXcellence, Access and Success (TEXAS) Grant is Texas's largest need-based state grant, covering tuition and required fees for financially needy Texas residents at public institutions. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board sets award amounts annually; for FY2027 the maximum is $5,399 per semester at public universities and health-related institutions, unchanged from FY2026. A standard fall/spring year is therefore up to $10,798; students enrolled in a summer term may receive an additional semester award. THECB also publishes a lower recommended 'target' amount of $2,500 per semester, so most recipients receive less than the maximum. Eligibility is determined from the FAFSA or TASFA.

Renewal terms: Renewable with satisfactory academic progress (typically 2.5+ GPA and 24 credit hours/year) up to 150 attempted hours or 5 years.
