The Wisconsin Grant is the state's core need-based aid program for resident undergraduates, administered by the Higher Educational Aids Board across four tracks: UW System (WG-UW), Wisconsin Technical College System (WG-TC), tribal colleges (WG-TR), and private non-profit institutions (WG-PNP). The FAFSA is the only application required. Awards are calculated by formula - (Student Budget minus Student Aid Index) multiplied by a HEAB-set award percentage - and prorated by enrollment intensity down to less-than-half-time. For 2025-26 the maximums were $3,500 (UW System), $1,752 (technical college), $2,197 (tribal), and $4,850 (private non-profit), with supplemental flat Tier 2 awards available in some tracks when funding permits. Minimums and maximums are reset annually by HEAB based on the state budget, and total eligibility is capped at 10 semesters.
