Richard E. Merwin Student Scholarship

Undergraduates in the final two years of a bachelor's program, or graduate students, studying computer science, computer engineering, or electrical engineering, with at least a 2.5/4.0 GPA and at least three months of active IEEE Computer Society student membership plus documented Student Branch leadership. Open globally - no citizenship requirement.

The Richard E. Merwin Student Scholarship recognizes active student leaders in IEEE and IEEE Computer Society Student Branches who show academic and professional promise in computing. Named for a past Computer Society president, the award provides up to $1,000 to undergraduates in their final two years or to graduate students in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a well-defined computer-related engineering field. Winners also serve a one-year term as IEEE Computer Society Student Ambassadors, acting as liaisons between Society leadership and student members in their region, and must file progress reports at six and twelve months. The Society funds $40,000 in Merwin scholarships each year across two cycles. Applicants need at least a 2.5 GPA (or 60% exam marks), three months of active dues-paying Computer Society membership, a full transcript, a Student Ambassador vision statement, and a letter from their Student Branch Chapter adviser.

Renewal terms: Not renewable. Past winners cannot reapply for 13 months after receiving an award.
